VASUNDHARA ABHIYAN BANER

Vasundhara Abhiyan, Baner (Pune) is an environmental NGO committed to restoring the balance between urban development and nature. Since 2006, the organization has been actively working on the Baner–Pashan (Tukai) Hill, leading initiatives in tree plantation, water conservation, biodiversity protection, and ecological restoration.

Our mission is to promote Urban Greening by transforming barren landscapes into thriving green ecosystems. With the help of volunteers, citizens, and partner organizations, we have planted over 50,000 native trees representing more than 550 species, ensuring the revival of native and climate-resilient species across the hill.

We emphasize Water Conservation through the construction of 30 water tanks and 40+ contour bunds, enabling natural rainwater harvesting and soil moisture retention. These efforts not only sustain the planted trees but also help recharge the groundwater table and enhance the local ecosystem’s resilience.

To strengthen Biodiversity and Natural Habitat restoration, Vasundhara Abhiyan focuses on creating self-sustaining ecosystems that support birds, insects, and other wildlife. Through Indigenous Seed Conservation, we preserve the genetic diversity of native plant species, promoting ecological stability and ensuring that the next generation inherits a living legacy of nature.

As part of our vision for a Carbon Neutral Living, we encourage eco-friendly lifestyles, community participation, and environmental awareness among citizens, schools, and corporate groups. We also integrate innovative plantation techniques such as the Miyawaki Dense Forest Method, fostering dense, fast-growing green spaces within urban areas.

Through continuous dedication, Vasundhara Abhiyan strives to create a greener tomorrow—one that celebrates harmony between people and the planet, revives native ecosystems, and contributes meaningfully to India’s journey toward sustainability and climate resilience.
